Why Is Dirt Blowing Back Into My Pool When I Vacuum?
▶️

Dirt or debris blowing back into the pool when you are vacuuming (or any time) indicates that you likely have a problem with the filtration media inside of your pool filter. If you have a sand filter it is likely that one of the laterals or stand pipe has cracked allowing debris back through the system, or potentially the sand in the filter has calcified and is channeling which means the sand is hard and water flows through the cracks in the sand, not through the sand as it should. If you have a cartridge or DE filter and you have debris blowing back into the pool this could be from a hole in the grids of your DE filter or your paper cartridge has a hole or a ripped seam.

In addition to these filter related problems you could also have very small debris which is able to make it past the filter itself and back into the pool through the return lines. Commonly this might be something like pollen or dust which can be hard to capture especially if you have a sand filter. Sand filters have the least ability to remove fine particulate matter of all the swimming pool filter types.
