In 2021 the Department of Energy passed a new law where all swimming pool filtration pumps (for all pools) need to be either variable speed pumps, or meet an efficiency standard which is so high that variable speed pumps almost exclusively can meet the requirement. If you were to install a variable speed pump without any way to measure the actual flow rate through your pool system you would never reach the full energy saving potential with this new pump. In order to dial in the filtration schedule for your pool properly you need the ability to know how much water is moving (in gallons per minute) at any given point through your system. Without a flow meter you would just be guessing at the actual flow rates and this would leave a lot of potential for improvements especially at low flow rates where it is especially hard to manually judge the volume of flow.
The FLOWVIS brand meter contains a positive seal check valve which means these flow meters are best suited for pool systems that have (or need) a check valve. The FLOWVIS flow meter can be used as a stand alone analogue flow meter or it can also be adapted with a digital readout and light up display. Other brands of flow meters for pools require very specific distancing requirements from other fittings or pool equipment which can be hard to satisfy with a residential pool installation. The FLOWVIS style flow meter can fit into any pool system regardless of how tight the spacing is.
