The Polaris Freedom cordless robotic pool vacuum is a great choice for pool owners that are tired of tangled cords leading to early failure of older style robotic cleaners. Even "tangle-free" cord designs often do not live up to their name and this Polaris Freedom vac removes this concern completely. I was a little concerned about the weight of the vacuum plus the potential cleaning ability on one battery charge, especially since the test pool is a very large 20x40' pool with a nine foot deep end, around 33,000 gallons or so. Additionally this pool is surrounded on all sides by large, old-growth trees of the pine and birch varieties mostly. These both notoriously deposit a lot of debris into pools.
Fortunately the battery performance on the Polaris Freedom is really strong. It has enough in one charge to run a complete walls-and-floor cleaning cycle of 2.5 hours, and still has enough battery left to (almost) complete another 1.5 hour floor cycle. Pretty amazing since charge time is right around five hours so charge time and run time are surprisingly close to equal. Interestingly this vacuum also weighs 20 pounds, which is less than I expected it would be for a battery operated unit. That is similar in weight to corded robotic pool vacuums.
One of the biggest questions I had with this robotic vacuum were about how to retrieve it after it completes the cleaning cycle. For one, you can operate this vacuum with the iAquaLink app, with which you can enable push notifications to your phone. So it can alert you that it is finished and waiting at the water line for retrieval. If you do not have the app the unit will automatically climb the walls (one at a time) and wait at the top of the wall for a short while to be picked up. If not picked up, it moves to another wall and tries again. After it has tried a few walls waiting at the water line for retrieval it will "give up" and sink down to the floor and wait. This is where it gets neat. Yes, you could use the hook supplied with this vac and attach it to your pool pole and fish the vacuum out by the handle. Alternatively, you can "bump" the vacuum, which is to say nudge it a little bit so the tracks detect the slightest movement, at which time it will turn back on and drive up the wall it is currently pointed towards and wait at the waterline for you to pick it up. Super neat idea!
I would not hesitate to promote the Polaris Freedom to pool owners. This one worked as advertised in a larger than average pool with more than a fair amount of organic debris. The cordless design is a no-brainer to use, so to speak, in that it is simple and easy to handle, change, drop in the pool or retrieve. I especially liked the basket design which does not drop debris into the pool when you lift the vacuum out and is much easier to remove and clean than filters from other popular robotic pool vacuums.
