Why Germicidal UV Lights In Pools Are Beneficial
▶️

Germicidal UV lights and UV lamps are a peripheral pool water maintenance device which directly cleans the water and deactivates bacteria and parasites in the water. The function of germicidal UV compliments the use of chemical sanitizers like chlorine in that they help to reduce the buildup of chloramines (spent chlorine) as well as reducing on the contamination within the water which the chlorine is expected to deal with. Despite the fact that germicidal UV does consume chorine as part of how it functions, you would experience a net reduction in your total chlorine useage should you add a germicidal UV light to your pool filtration system. Commonly these lights are installed upstream of the pool heater as the chloramine destroying ability of the UV lamp serves to provde some addition protection to the metals in your heater from chlormaine residual within the water.

There may be better, more advanced technology for pools such as AOP (advanced oxidation process) which commonly can inlude UV (and ozone) as part of how it generates hydroxyl radicals, however the cost of this technology is well above that of a stand alone germicidal UV light. Many pool owners would benefit from a germicidal UV light but it represents less investment and less maintenance than a more advanced AOP system. The simplicity and relatively low cost of the germicidal UL light makes it a serious contender for any pool owners that wants safer, cleaner water and to reduce on the amount of chlorine and chemicals used to maintain the water.
