The best chocolate chip cookies Stop searching. You have found the best chocolate chip cookie recipe in the world. Yes that is a bold claim to make, to say the least, but the proof is in the, well, cookies. First of all you need to understand that these are chocolate chip cookies. This is important because, as far as I am concerned, chocolate chip cookies are the only cookies. I don't want a gingersnap, thank you very much, and so help me if any cookie you hand me has raisins in it...

So now we understand each other. I am not a chocolate chip cookie rookie. Next what you need to know is that I have spent the last 30 years trying every chocolate chip cookie recipe I could find in pursuit of my dream: the ultimate chocolate chip cookie. This is the recipe you are reading about today. I did however learn along the way that there is no one-cookie-fits-all solution to the conundrum. Different people like different qualities in chocolate chip cookies. Some like them big and cakey, while some like them thin and crispy. A few chocolate chips, or more chip than cookie for some people. Everyone has their own version of the best cookie qualities. Well, I have tried them all, baked them all and shared them all with friends and family. The following recipe has been unanimously declared the single best chocolate chip cookie recipe of them all.

Desired Cookie Qualities - These chocolate chip cookies are quite thin compared to some other cookie recipes. They cook fast and end up having a slightly crispy outside edge with a chewy and tender interior. They are heavy on the chocolate chips and slightly oily compared to a cake-like cookie but this carries a strong vanilla flavor along with it which enhances the overall cookie eating experience.

3/4 cup of Crisco all vegetable shortening

1 1/4 cup of lightly packed dark brown sugar

1 egg

2 tablespoons of 2% milk

2 Teaspoon of high quality vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 teaspoon baking soda

1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions - Mix softened shortening with brown sugar until creamy. Add the egg, milk and vanilla and mix thoroughly. Mix all dry ingredients together and then add to the shortening and sugar. Mix together well. Once the mix is uniform, fold in the chocolate chips. Form the cookie dough into balls less than one inch in diameter and bake at 375 degrees on an ungreased cookie sheet for 8 minutes.

*Yields approximately 2 dozen cookies

lots of cookies

I have baked hundreds of batches of chocolate chip cookies looking for the "perfect" cookie recipe. I think these are the best that you will have anywhere but if you think you have a chocolate chip cookie recipe that is better than these then I would like to hear from you! Post a comment below or email me with your cookie recipe and preferably some pictures as well. Realistically though...these are the best chocolate chip cookies out there - try them for yourself.
